학교법인 경희학원 이사장 조인원 박사는 “문화세계의 창조” “학문과 평화”를 지향하는 경희대학교
와 경희사이버대학교 총장을 역임했다(2006년~2018년).

조 박사는 삶과 정치의 미학적 공간에 대한 사회담론과 실천방안을 모색해온 정치학자다. 그의 정치
세계는 이성과 감성, 제도와 인간, 현실과 이상의 창의적 결합을 지향하며 현실정치(Realpolitik)를
재구성하고자 한다. 특히 삶의 미학을 통한 대안 찾기는 ‘포월(包越)의 기획’에 관한 정치담론을 모색
한다. 이념적 대립과 투쟁으로 점철된 오늘의 정치 현실은 '벗어나고 넘어서고 소통하는 변형 인식'
과 '변화와 보편의 창조 의지'를 재발견해 전환의 초석을 마련할 수 있다는 것이 그의 시각이다.

학자 겸 실천가인 조인원 박사는 정부, 시민사회, 국제기구에 다양한 의제와 대안을 제시해왔다.
대통령직인수위원회 국정지표심의위원(1997), 서울 NGO 세계대회 삼자공동추진위원회 한국대표
(1999), UN Millennium NGO Forum 운영위원(1999), 세계시민포럼(World Civic Forum) 의장
(2008), UNESCO Chair on Future Civilizations(2011) 등을 역임했다. 저서로 <국가와 선택>,
<문명충돌 현장을 가다>, <탈 20세기 대화록>, <포월의 초대: 탈권위, 탈현대의 새로운 정치담론을
찾아서>, <정치의 미래 - 그 이상향을 탐색하다>, <정치와 정치, 그리고 정치>, <Transformative
Challenges: Modern Civilizations and Beyond>, <Give Peace Another Chance>, <내 안의 미
래>, <지구의 운명, 평화로 가는 길> 등과 다수의 논문이 있다.

경희대학교 정치외교학과를 졸업하고, 미국 University of Pennsylvania에서 “산업재편의 정치
(Politics of Industrial Restructuring)”란 학위논문으로 박사학위를 취득했다. 학위 취득 후 경희대
정치외교학과 교수, 평화복지대학원 교수, NGO대학원장, 학교법인 경희학원 상임이사로 재임했다.

Dr. Inwon Choue is Chancellor of Kyung Hee University System, an administrator, a scholar, and a practitioner in civic and global agendas.

As Chancellor, Dr. Choue represents and administers the Board of Trustees of Kyung Hee University System comprised of eight schools and two medical organizations. They include: Kyung Hee University, Kyung Hee Cyber University, Kyung Hee University Medical Center, Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong, Kyung Hee High School, Kyung Hee Middle School, Kyung Hee Women’s High School, Kyung Hee Women’s Middle School, Kyung Hee Elementary School, and Kyung Hee Preschool. Honoring Kyung Hee’s founding spirit of “Academe and Peace” and “Global Eminence,” he and the trustees of the Board have been engaged in various activities that would guide, oversee, and empower the university system.

As an administrator, Dr. Choue has served as the President of Kyung Hee University and Kyung Hee Cyber University (2006-2018). Prior to his presidency, he also served as the Dean of Graduate School of NGO Studies (2001-2004.), the Executive Director of the Board of Trustees of Kyung Hee University System (2004-2006).

As a scholar, Dr. Choue has conducted research in the field of ‘aesthetic space’ in life and politics. He has also taught at the Department of Political Science, the Graduate Institute of Peace Studies, and the Graduate School of NGO Studies of Kyung Hee University. His scholarship has long sought a harmony of ‘reason and passion,’ ‘humans and institutions,’ ‘reality and ideals,’ engendering public discourses to transcend socio-political rifts of our times. He is the author and editor of many books including State and Choice (1998), The Dusk of Modern Civilization: Clashes and Beyond (2004), Dialogues off the 20th Century (2006), Politics Beyond Trammels: Political Discourse for Transcendental Engagement (2006), Exploring Utopian Future of Politics (2008), The Future of Universities (2010), Transformative Challenges: Modern Civilizations and Beyond (2010), Give Peace Another Chance (2012), Politics and Politics and Beyond (2012), The Future Within (2016), Unfolding Stories of Earth: A Hope for Our Fortuna (2018), and many more. He has also authored numerous scholarly articles in the relevant field.

As a practitioner, Choue has presented a vast range of agendas concerning civil society and international communities. He was also instrumental in many reformative proposals to the government. He was and continues to be, among others, a member of the Transition Committee of the President of the Republic of Korea in charge of deliberating national visions (1997), head of the Planning Committee of the 1999 Seoul International Conference of NGOs (1998-99), member of the Civil Society Development Committee of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (2004-05), Co-chair of the World Civic Forum (2009), UNESCO Chair Professor (2011-present), and Fellow of The World Academy of Art and Science (2016-present). His ‘social writings’ on alternative politics and civilizations have appeared in major newspapers, weeklies and periodicals in Korea. He was also the project head for a series of Korean media’s special reports on ‘Global Civilizations,’ ‘Politics of the Future,’ ‘Cultural Codes for Next Societies,’ and ‘Conceptual Horizons for Interconnected World.’

Dr. Inwon Choue graduated from the Political Science Department of Kyung Hee University and continued his academic career at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, U.S.A., where he wrote his doctoral dissertation entitled “Politics of Industrial Restructuring.”
